Im not one to typically follow all the trends when it comes to design. I actually prefer to do the opposite and go with more of a classic and traditional base and maybe play around with the trends with pillows or accessories. It is interesting to see how design styles change over the years, and this one will be no different. Its pretty obvious that design is going lighter and brighter. Last year tone on tone with rustic woods and metals was a pretty big trend. This year I believe we will see a come back of that bold pop of color and some over sized pattern. Design is getting more fun in this way! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good tonal room and playing of textures and hues of soft color. But every now and then its nice to mix things up with a good pattern or color. I still suggest keeping your base neutral, that way if you like to follow the trends its easy to change things up and doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg, unless your into that type of thing of course. Here are some of my predictions of what we will be seeing more of in design in 2016:
- Hand-loomed and Hand-crafted product
(with the availability of ‘things’ at our fingertips, we are moving towards choosing elements that are made by beautiful artisans rather than mass-produced by big box stores.)

Sherwin Williams is all the rage here in Texas when it comes to paint. If you’re a Californian native like me you may be use to Dunn Edwards or Benjamin Moore. To each its own, they all have a great white. And we’re a MAJOR fan of White Paint. Ben released is 2016 color of the year, and guess what.. its a WHITE, of course! You can’t beat it. Simply White (OC-117). Below are a few ways Simply White was used, and I highly recommend it.
Kitchen by Donald Lococo Architects.
Living Room by Studio McGee.

Even though we may see these bright pops of color and pattern, Design will still sway towards quieter, cleaner, simpler tones.
